Day 95: Avery Memorial Campsite to Pierce Pond Lean-to (24.6 miles)
Updated: May 10, 2019
August 15, 2004 - Woke up at 5:00am for the sunrise then went straight back to sleep for another hour. I was hoping to get an early start since I was told that the leftovers from another hurricane would be coming in around noon. So I hiked as fast as I could to get to the shelter that Shepherd and I had planned on staying at for the night. The hike down Bigelow and Little Bigelow took awhile. Then after that is was flat to the shelter. I got to the shelter very early and there was no sign of any rain storm so I ate my lunch and moved on, also there was no sign of Shepherd so I guessed he had the same idea as me. It was completely flat to Pierce Pond shelter where I found Shepherd and a few other hikers swimming in the pond. This shelter has a great view of the pond and saw a great sunset, not as good as the night before. Not much else to write about since it was a very boring hike. I did pass the 2000 mile mark. At the shelter I watched a mouse die, not sure what it died from but not too happy to being sleeping near by. Waking up early and heading over to a near by campsite that serves breakfast. 24.6 miles on the day.
