Day 51: Harpers Ferry, WV to Pogo Memorial Campsite (26.3 miles)

Updated: May 10, 2019

July 2, 2004 - Woke up early because Tara had to be back at work in Washington DC, so she drove us back to the ATC where we said our goodbyes. I had a great time at her place. It’s always good to be back on the trail. Crossed the Potomac River into Maryland, 6th state to enter. Had a great time hiking in the morning and ate lunch at Gathland State Park where I met A-Dog and had a nice chat with him. Bilbo came as I was leaving, an hour behind. He has decided to slow down some to rest up his legs so he isn’t going to be doing many miles the next few days. I’m feeling great so I may not see him again which would be a shame, he is such a nice guy but I have to move on. So many great stops here in Maryland. Went to the 1st Washington Monument built, which was very cool. Then took a long dinner break at Annapolis Rocks, great view. Then it was only 1.7 miles to the campsite so I was planning on watching the sunset from Black Rock Cliffs and hike the .7 to camp but I missed the turnoff somehow. Ended up sharing the campsite with one other guy. Turning in early since not much sleep the past few nights. 26.9 miles for the day.
