Day 37: Lamberts Meadow Shelter to Bobblets Gap Shelter (27.9 miles)
Updated: May 10, 2019
June 18, 2004 - Taking it easy yesterday paid off. Got in a good 27.9 miles with not much pain in the ankle. It appears to get a little better everyday. Today was a good re-supply day in Daleville. It was a 10 mile hike down. The bad thing is that you could see and hear the town 6 miles away. Got into town and went straight to Kroger Supermarket and the Outfitters. I met Postcard in the Outfitters who had to restock a lot of gear because the rain ruined it the other day. Then ate some pizza and back to the trail. Then I started passing the Blue Ridge Parkway which is a famous road around here. About 2.5 miles from where I would stop for the night there were these 3 elderly people who just ate dinner at the road crossing (I cross the BRP about 10 times) and they had left-overs so I ate with them and talked about my hike. It was getting dark and I wanted to get to camp before it was too dark so I thanked them for the food and took off. I rolled into camp about 30 min after the sun set. However, the shelter was full and no good places to pitch a tent. There was no other place to go being this late so I pitched my tent on the slope and rocks. Not going to get a good night’s sleep.
