Day 30: Walker Pass to CS654 (3.0 miles - 654.2)

Updated: Aug 22, 2019

June 6, 2016 - Well sure enough my body woke me up at 5:30am but was able to go back to sleep for a few more hours. Once I was finally up I started to pack up and take one more shower as check out was at 11am.

The plan was to stay in town for as long as possible as I didn’t want to hike that much today, just a few miles down trail. However there wasn’t anywhere to hang out except for this park, luckily I found some shade. I thought about taking the early bus but that didn’t make sense as I would have just been hanging out at Walker Pass until the evening so it just made sense to hang around town. So went over to Subway to eat lunch. Then afterwards went back to the park and waited the 3.5 hours for the next bus to show up.

The bus finally came just before 5pm but there were a lot of people wanting the ride back to trail and some locals. We ended up fitting 25 people on a bus for 18. It took about an hour to drive the 35 miles back to Walker Pass but we had to make like 10 stops.

Got back to trail around 6pm and sure enough there was Coppertone giving out trail magic. He made me a root beer float to eat after my dinner.

Then I decide that since it was cool out I would hike a few miles. I loaded up on water with 7 liters to make it to the water cache and hoped some of that 50 gallons would be left when I got there. I made it about 3 miles with it all uphill. I was having some lower back problems since earlier in the day and it didn’t feel too well heading out but it did start to loosen up as I moved down trail. Hopefully after a good night sleep my back will feel better, too close to Kennedy Meadows to give up.
