May 13, 2004 - I just finished with my first day of hiking. I’m staying at Stover Creek Shelter tonight. I had planned on going a little longer but while eating dinner a big rain storm came through. So Joe and I decided to stay the night and get an early start in the morning. Hiking today wasn’t so bad but it was only 11.2 miles today. Lisa dropped me off at Amicalola Falls State Park around 10:30am and it took me about 3 hours to hike the approach trail to the start of the AT on Springer Mt Summit. I’m staying with 2 other guys in the shelter, Joe and Keith. Keith had some great stories to tell. Time for bed.
